The work behind the words
Content that captures a firm's thinking and sounds unmistakably like them. Here is what that looks like in practice.
Case study • Church of England Pensions Board
Helping clergy take charge of their financial future
The challenge
As part of its 'Enabling Choice' programme, the Board was launching a new suite of financial products and services for around 7,500 stipendiary clergy. All of it needed a knowledge base, built from scratch, to explain everyday money, saving, investing and home ownership to a non-specialist readership.
The approach
Kevin Dowling led the content. He set the strategy first, five content pillars mapped to real clergy needs, then authored the library behind the hub: guides, product literature and articles. Every piece drew on credible sources, held up against changing legislation, and was organised around the clergy reader rather than the institution.
The outcome
The hub is in pilot ahead of a full launch this year, and a defined project has grown into an ongoing partnership. Clergy feedback has been warm, praising content that is clear and accessible without oversimplifying the difficult parts.

"I am increasingly appreciating the work and effort being put into this, but most of all the care and thought behind it."

Head writer and founder
Kevin Dowling had his first byline in the money section of a national newspaper at 16. He’s been writing about investments ever since. Previous roles include Marketing Copywriter (Janus Henderson), Investment Writer (Octopus Investments), Head of Product Marketing (Legg Mason), and Head of Content (Octopus Group). Since starting his own company in 2020, he’s delivered content or content strategy for a broad range of organisations, some of them below. He’s also worked via content and branding agencies with some of the biggest names in the investment world (although he can’t list them here for contractual reasons, just ask him, and he’ll nod or shake his head).

Flight to Quality works with boutique and emerging fund managers, mid-size investment firms, and the stretched marketing and distribution leads inside them. It’s not a one-man band. Kevin calls on a team of investment writers and designers that have worked on behalf of some of the world’s largest investment companies. We’ve also written across multiple asset classes and investment industries, including UK venture capital, private equity and debt. We’re now bringing this institutional knowledge and understanding to smaller asset and wealth managers.

We agree a plan, we capture your thinking through short conversations, and we deliver your reporting, thought leadership and other content requirements on a predictable schedule. Your fund managers provide sign off. They don’t have to write, but they are expected to give us the insight we need to work with.

Retainers are tiered to your stage, from a single-strategy boutique to a multi-strategy manager. You can see the tiers on the Services page.
-
That’s the whole point. You work directly with an experienced investment writer who learns your voice, your point of view, and what works for your audiences, so what goes out is authentically, unmistakably yours.
-
We use AI tools where they genuinely help, such as research and gathering information. It’s also good for creating fiddly templates and PowerPoint decks. But your investors are paying for a point of view, and that has to come directly from you, articulated by us.

Quickly. Does that answer your question? It starts with a discovery call, so we can find out what you need, and agree whether we’re a good fit. Then we’ll agree a retainer model based on your requirements, and ask you to sign a Terms of Business document so we both know where we stand. After that, we’ll schedule some meetings so we can figure out how each other works. If you prefer, we’re happy to travel to your offices to have a face-to-face conversation, just like the old days.
